New Concept: Challenging Specifications

Shopfitting & Interiors

What We Do: Specialist Areas. Starbucks

South Terminal, Gatwick

We were proud to be involved in delivering this store, the largest Starbucks in Europe, airside at the South Terminal of Gatwick Airport. All delivered within a demanding timescale in a busy 10 weeks, in the run up to Christmas 2016 as part of a wider airport development plan.

The store refit was a new concept, using new lavish materials and required working very closely with the client design team to develop crisp, workable details involving the use of very specific, often imported materials like the lava stone frontage, the large format floor tiles, the handmade feature fish-scale tiles and our wall mounted hero joinery artworks.

We worked closely with the services designers to integrate the refrigeration requirements into the servery and back of house areas. Careful planning and co-ordination was needed to deliver the services links from very remote plant areas, via some challenging routes through the airport to the new store location. To help with the tight schedule and site logistics we used an offsite consolidation centre and timed just-in-time deliveries to overcome the usual demanding airside logistics and storage space challenges.

As anyone who has worked there knows Gatwick Airport has stringent security, health and safety, logistics and methods of working that their approved shopfitter companies are required to adhere to. At Barnwood we understand how important it is to provide clear precise project management alongside quality performance to ensure a smooth process and to deliver a successful outcome.
